“Illegal drug trafficking and the war on drugs is a tragedy for most vulnerable people. With this sculpture I want to highlight the hidden victims of the failed “War on Drugs” in Latin America: the women body-packers. Most of these women have experienced extreme poverty, multiple violences, didn’t finish school and are single mothers. They put their bodies and lives at risk, often die or end up in prison. Being from Colombia and working with vulnerable women in London, I feel deeply about this. This is also a global matter that needs a new approach. Therefore, with this piece I also want to open a conversation that is extremely complex and difficult.”
Stoneware coiled sculpture, glazed with a copper and manganese gold glaze.
