SHEROES COLLECTIVE is powered by a community of women, trans women and non-binary activist artists whose work is rooted in lived experience. From survivors to change makers, their art is an act of courage and inspiration, sparking dialogue and driving change in our communities and beyond.
Too often, the work of these artists is overlooked by commercial art spaces. These institutions tend to measure success by market value, overlooking the profound social and cultural impact of activist art. This disconnect diminishes the true significance of their work and silences voices that urgently need to be heard.
After hosting several exhibitions and events, we’re taking a more intentional approach to our next projects. Rather than open calls, we’re focusing on expanding our community by reaching out directly to artists, listening to their stories, understanding their practices, and recognising their full potential.
We’re looking for artists who are not only ready to exhibit their work, but also to lead workshops, share their journeys, and collaborate with us in driving much-needed social change.
Thanks to the British Art Network 2025–26 Bursary Award: Connect Stream (Tate & Paul Mellon Centre), we’ve received funding to support research and relationship-building with artists. As part of this, we’re opening a calendar for artists to book a call with us.
We are also forming a new steering committee, made up of SHEROES artists and emerging talents who bring fresh perspectives, diversity, and knowledge to our collective.

Empowering Women Activist Artists
SHEROES Thursdays is a series of conversations, talks, and workshops designed to support, inspire, and empower women activist artists in their creative and advocacy work.
What we offer
- Practical tools for sustainability: From securing funding to showcasing your work, equip yourself with the resources needed to maintain and grow your artistic practice.
- Community building: Connect, share experiences, and discuss challenges with other women activist artists worldwide.
- Empowerment through knowledge: Gain insights and strategies to ensure your art continues to be a sustainable force for change.

Why it matters
- The role of women activist artists: Art is a powerful tool for raising awareness about critical issues like gender-based violence, inequality, reproductive rights, and discrimination. Women activist artists translate complex social challenges into compelling narratives that inspire empathy, dialogue, and action.
- Creating impact through art: By connecting emotional storytelling with pressing social causes, women activist artists have the ability to bring communities together and spark meaningful change.
- Addressing challenges: We recognise that artists often face difficulties sustaining their practice. This series aims to provide practical support while advocating for the value of your work.
